Kernel version 2.6.32.2-NDCHost_2 is now available in our VPS manager. This kernel version is now what’s also used when you select the ‘linux 2.6 latest’ option. Customers using 2.6.30.5-NDCHost_1 can continue to use this version if they wish. There are no known security issues with it at this time and this version is still available for selection in the manager.

In trying out the new kernel today I had to manually configure the MAC address in ifcg-eth0 to get networking to work. I was hoping all of this would have been auto configured.
Do you have a FAQ on upgrading kernels?
Robert, It’s weird you had to do that. Was there already a MAC in there that was wrong or did you have to add your MAC? We dont have a FAQ, it’s normally as simple as logging into the VPS manager, clicking on your profile, and selecting the new kernel. If you use the kernel labeled ‘latest 2.6 linux’ then really all you need to do is log into the manager and click reboot. Open a ticket if you have any other issues or see any problems and we’ll check them out for you.
Hi Shaun,
Yes, there was a different MAC address in ifcfg-eth0 than “hardware” resulting in an error message and failure of networking to start.
From a Google search I found that versions of CentOS prior to 5.4 would start networking despite the mismatch, so it’s likely I’ve had the MAC incorrectly configured since setting up the server with version 5.0 and never noticed. (This was my first reboot since the 5.4 update.) It also means that other folks may encounter this problem if they started with the same CentOS5 image I did.
The problem isn’t related to the kernel update as I had assumed.
